Bio - Adam Riggs, Cellist
Noted for his energetic, passionate and expressive playing, Dr. Adam Riggs is an avid chamber musician, teacher, and performer. He has performed and attended music festivals across Canada and the United States and in Italy. His role as Performance Manager of Life/Art Dance Ensemble, a Denver-based non-profit, has allowed him to simultaneously utilize his talents for artist management, publicity, graphic design, photography, and cello performance. He was responsible for introducing the dance company to composers Russell Podgorsek and Chris Seal, who created works for cello that Adam has premiered with Life/Art Dance Ensemble. Combining his love of chamber music with working with dancers, he was responsible for the addition of live chamber music to the dance company’s performances.
An avid teacher, Adam is currently on faculty at Parlando School for the Arts, and at University of Colorado’s Continuing Education Department. He has taught and coached chamber music at University of Colorado’s Summer Music Academy program and has led sectionals and auditions at various high schools in the Boulder Valley School District, while maintaining a private studio.
Adam began his cello studies at age 4 and, from a very early age, became a regular award winner at local and provincial competitions. He competed at the National level during his high school years before continuing his musical studies at university. He holds a Bachelor of Music Honours Performance Degree and a Diploma in Chamber Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master of Music Performance degree from The Hartt School in Connecticut, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Colorado Boulder. He has studied with Sally Gross, Paul Pulford, Simon Fryer, Mihai Tetel and Judith Glyde and has worked with András Fejér, Thomas Heinrich, Aldo Parisot and Shauna Rolston.
Adam is owner and photographer at AR Pictures, and resides in Denver with his wife, Jessica.
